Product details

Thread rolling dies are tools used on thread rolling machines to roll threads through metal plastic deformation.

Generally, alloy steels Cr12MoV, SKD11, and DC53 are used. They are high-carbon high-chromium steels with high hardenability and tempering stability, which also improve impact toughness and refine grain size. The carbides in these steels are complex chromium-iron carbides. The high chromium content causes uneven carbide distribution, often in banded or network patterns. Additionally, the undercooled austenite of this steel is very stable, and after quenching, a large amount of retained austenite ensures minimal volume deformation. Therefore, such steels are used to make thread rolling dies.


1. Heat treatment hardness higher than SKD11 [1]
After high-temperature tempering, it can reach 62-63 HRC high hardness. In terms of strength and wear resistance, DC53 exceeds SKD11.
2. Toughness is twice that of SKD11
The toughness of DC53 is outstanding among cold work die steels. Tools made from DC53 rarely crack or break, greatly increasing service life.
3. Reduced residual stress after wire EDM
High-temperature tempering reduces residual stress, suppressing cracking and deformation after wire EDM.
4. Better machinability and grindability than SKD11
DC53's machinability and grindability are superior to SKD11. Using DC53 can increase tool and die life and reduce processing steps.
